More than 100 years later, the world I live in still displays the impact of the New Imperialism

Today the world I live in still displays the impact of the New Imperialism...
- Today, we are advancing in technology. It practically seems like everday we are hearing about a new invention on the news. Whether is from electronic foot massaugers to medicine, like the shots for Swine Flu!!
- Also today our economy is increasing becasue of our advances. People in less rich countries might not have the types of medicines we do, for example. And some people in poor countries ,that dont have the common cold medicine, well believe it or not some people actually die from a cold. Which is crazy cause I get cols all of the time.
- Today everyone goes to school basically so I guess you can say education is encouraged:)lol. But also our civilization is open to scientific thinking also. Like if some guy just came out and said he found the cure for cancer, I dont think anyone is going to turn him away and say " your stupid we dont like your invention."
- We do have new methods of transpotation, like air planes.
- Religion wise, we have a technically, open society. No one is really forced to be a certain religion unless it is their family's religion, then thats another story. But I'm a christian. Thankfully i can express my beliefs freely.

Negative Effects of the New Imperialism

There were quite a few negative effects of the New Imperialism...I think like one main thing would be that a lot of people lost lands and there a lot of people being forced to be slaves like In Congo, Leopold and other wealthy Belgians exploited the riches of the Congo. There were horrifying reports of Belgian overseers being brutal to the villagers. they forced them to work for practically nothing and they were beaten and mutilized. This makes me superly duperly mad just talking about it. Or technically writing. hehe. But, most of the population decreased for these reasons. Another negative effect of the New Imperialism would be how the Africans Resisted Imperialism. There were a few battles with France resisting the Imperialism. The Astante in West Africa, their king was exiled and they put their queen in charge of them, her name was weird, Yaa Asantewaa. just picture me withat that name:D. But she led them against the British in the last Asante war. Ethiopia though, successfully resisted Imperialism.

What is the New Imperialism?

Ok, So now that you know what imperialism is, lets talk about the "New" Imperialism. The New Imperialism is a name that historians today came up with for the aggressive expansion of Europe.
Who, What, When, Where, Why??
There were key causes that took place that led to the New Imperialism.
The Industrial Revolution had a little to do with it. It created needs and desires that spurred overseas expansion. Manurfaturers wanted access to natural resources and they wanted markets where they could sell their goods to the growing popultaion. Colonies offered an outlets for Europe's growing population.
Political and military issues were right there with Economic issues. Industrial powers seized islands or harbors to meet the needs of merchant ships and naval vessels to take on coal and supplies.
Many westerners were concerned with the people beyond the seas. Missionaries, doctors, and colonial officials believed they had a duty to spread the blessings of Western civilization.
